IBM iSeries Services: Logical Partitioning (LPAR)
LPAR allows workloads from multiple systems to be consolidated to a
single iSeries machine, thus significantly cutting IT costs while
minimizing risk. LPAR involves a single iSeries system’s resources
(processors, memory, etc.) being divided to create multiple independent
iSeries systems within the same system. The end result of this iSeries
partition is the system being “separated” into a primary partition and
one or more secondary partitions. Each iSeries partition can then be
used for different purposes, such as database operation or to separate
test and production environments, and can communicate with the other
partitions as if they were each in a separate machine.
Optimus’ LPAR services offer the planning and guidance of an experienced
LPAR consultant and include:
- Hardware design and planning
- On-site inventory and LPAR validation tool (LVT) review
- Installation of the iSeries server, including set up and
configuration of the LPARs
- Loading secondary partitions with appropriate operating system
- LPAR configuration documentation
