VMware is virtualization software that helps eliminate the problem of server sprawl. Server sprawl is the continuous adding of new servers and is a burden to companies in terms of capital expense and the staff needed to manage each new server. Virtualization with VMware allows multiple virtual machines with mixed operating systems to run side-by-side on one physical machine. Each virtual machine gets its own operating system and applications loaded onto its own set of virtual hardware (RAM, CPU).
