Process Modeling
Process Modeling has come to be associated with a number of ideas, all
concerned with the dynamic behavior associated with connecting
businesses systems. The subject of process modeling has developed
primarily from a technical or engineering background such as Use Cases
and Rational. Such enterprise-wide systems and methodologies can
themselves be considered models of business activities.
The Use Case model is based on various use cases with some minor
changes to better match UML's overall approach. Use Case scenarios are
used in process modeling and analysis of requirements stages of UML
(the Unified Modeling Language fuses the concepts of Booch, OMT, and
OOSE. The result is a single, common, and widely usable modeling
language for users of these and other methods. For more information of
UML refer to IBM Rational's web site at
http://www-306.ibm.com/software/rational/
.
Process Modeling is used as a collection of activities designed to
produce a specific output. It implies a strong emphasis on how the
work is done within an organization, in contrast to the products it
produces. The process is thus a specific ordering of work activities
across the enterprise, with a beginning, an end, and clearly defined
inputs and outputs throughout.
Process Modeling comes in many forms, but the underlying objective is
to link processes to profits by integrating finance and business
applications such as supply chain and ERP applications. Process
Modeling is fast becoming the standard approach to business plans,
projects, and transactions, providing:
-
Insights to savings overlooked by traditional spreadsheets and balance
sheets
-
Ready access to a full scope of detailed information
-
A disciplined internal regimen that efficiently documents business
processes
Optimus Consulting’s Process Modeling solutions create a familiar,
centralized, and web-based environment to:
-
Organize and centralize information
-
Readily access that information
-
Manage documents
-
Collaboratively edit, evaluate, compare, and consolidate that
information
These types of process and data models help our clients improve
efficiencies by bridging the gap between business goals and IT
strategies.
