CONSULTING WINS ATLANTA WEB DEVELOPERS AWARD
Microsoft .Net Talent Beats Competing Frameworks
NORCROSS, GEORGIA — October XX, 2005 — Optimus Consulting, the newly
formed information technology (IT) consulting arm of Optimus Solutions,
announces winning the first Atlanta Web Developers Users Group “Web
Development Shoot-out” contest. The Atlanta Web Developers Users Group
is a group of technically savvy web development professionals who meet
to discuss issues and innovations in web development on various
platforms and languages. The “Web Development Shoot-Out” contest was
designed to formally recognize and acknowledge the hard work and
dedication that each team put into constructing web sites using their
chosen framework. The requirements for the web sites were kept secret
until the start of the competition and each team was given four hours to
complete the task. Optimus Consulting won for building a sports league
registration/scheduling web site using Microsoft .Net and SQL
technologies.
“Website awards are a great way to recognize talented individual and
team efforts, such as this winning development team made up of Chris
Postell, Kevin Harris, and Lisa Seyler” said Ted Chappell, Vice
President of Optimus Consulting. “The Optimus team enters these
competitions to hone our development skills, increase teamwork, and
foster an educational environment shared with other knowledgeable
professionals.”
Optimus Consulting used robust tools from Microsoft, along with best
practice techniques to develop the winning web site. Other teams
competed using various technologies including Java on BEA Weblogic,
Lotus Domino, and Ruby on Rails. Optimus chose Microsoft.NET with C#
because of the group’s expertise in the technology and Microsoft.NET’s
reduced development time. The Microsoft.NET framework is a development
and execution environment that allows different programming languages
and libraries to work together seamlessly to create Windows-based
applications that are easier to build, manage, deploy, and integrate
with other networked systems. SQL Server 2000, a fully enterprise-class
database, was used to provide data management support and scalability.
The project specification and requirements were given to the teams at
the same time. Each team chose their own framework and approach to
writing and deploying the application. The code had to be flexible to
change, because of shifting requirements at the half-way (2 hours)
point. The final web sites were scored on functional completeness,
creativity, and speed. First place winner Optimus Consulting received an
Apple iPod and $50 American Express gift certificates for each team
member.
